The TEAC R-9 is a high-performance, studio-grade Digital Audio Tape (DAT) recorder launched in 1997. It served as the direct technological successor to the TEAC R-10, taking heavy layout and mechanism inspiration from TASCAM's highly successful professional workhorse, the TASCAM DA-30 MkII.
Jog / Shuttle Dial
Unlike the R-10, the R-9 introduced a professional front-panel shuttle dial, allowing tape operators to scrub, cue, and listen to audio at varying speeds from 1× to 16× for rapid editing.
Long Play (LP) Support
At a 32 kHz sampling frequency, the deck can continuously record or play back for up to 4 hours on a standard 120-minute DAT tape.
Studio Input Calibration
Features dual L/R-independent analogue level knobs alongside a hardware Manual / Reference toggle. Switching to reference bypasses the manual pots entirely, enforcing an exact fixed input level suitable for integrated studio racks.
Advanced ID Subcoding
Features five selectable automated threshold levels (from -48 dB down to -72 dB) to auto-detect and write track start IDs precisely between songs.
